Finally the suspense got over on Monday when the National Film awards were declared.
Southern actor ‘Prakash Raj’ was awarded best actor for his performance in an off-beat Tamil film- ‘Kanjeevaram‘ that also won the best feature film award at the 55th National Film Awards 2007.
Also known as Prakash Rai, the handsome and versatile actor of south, known for his films like ‘Iruvar‘(1998) & ‘Bommarillu‘(2006), is an Indian method actor and producer in Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu language films. He beated established and famous bollywood superstars like Aamir khan & Shahrukh Khan who were also nominated in the best actor category for ‘Taare Zameen par‘ and ‘Chak de India‘ respectively.
Though Aamir Khan’s directorial debut ‘Taare Zameen Par’ got the best family welfare award, ‘Prasoon Joshi‘ won award for the best lyrics for the song ‘Meri Maa‘ from the same film where ‘Shankar Mahadevan‘ who sung it got the National Award for best playback singer.
The best director award went in the hands of renowned Malayalam film director ‘Adoor Gopalakrishnan‘ for ‘Naalu Pennungal‘ while Kannada actress ‘Uma Shri’ won best actress award for the film ‘Gulabi Talkies‘.
