I think it in fact does not matter what they do with the sign. Moreover, if you have been there, you know the smog is so thick, you can’t see it anyhow. So what’s the big deal man..

I have heard that the same trust has raised approximately half the $12.5 million US required to purchase the Cahuenga Peak property which lies to the west of the sign from its Chicago-based owners.

You are correct Nysa. One more thing I would like to add here is that the letters were even altered for time being in 1992, to endorse the film ‘Cool World’.

Ahem!! I think this attempt is somewhat paradoxical. Reports say that the Hollywood sign, which consists of nine 15-metre-high letters, was erected in 1923 as an advertisement for a suburban housing development called ‘Hollywoodland’. Further, in 1949, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce removed the ‘land’ part of the sign.
