Baz Luhrmann & Vincent Fantauzzo visited India
The 47 year old Oscar nominated Australian filmmaker Baz Luhrmann was on his fourth trip to India. As part of a Le Sutra and Royal Enfield program, Australian portrait painter Vincent Fantauzzo too accompanied him.
The Australian filmmaker Known for The Red Curtain Trilogy finds a manifestation of Shakespeare’s plays in Bollywood films. He is so much impressed with Indian stars and Hindi movies that he even used the popular song ‘Chamma Chamma‘ from the movie China Gate starring yesteryear’s vivacious B-town hotty ‘Urmila’ & actor late ‘Om puri’, in his 2001 musical flick ‘Moulin Rouge’,that saw actress Nicole Kidman.
To carry this legacy further, these days the Oscar-nominated director is enthusiastic to work on a film in India, and may team up with music maestro Oscar & Grammy award winner A.R. Rahman.
Luhrmann said in an interview,”There are a number of classic stars here, and there are a few new Indian actors as well who are doing things differently. The idea of working with Indian actors has always excited me, and if it works out I definitely will. I am keeping my fingers crossed,”.
The trade people reported over various forms of media and speculated that his trip might have been a research and survey for his next project as some of his films in the past did have an Indian connect. “I wouldn’t say fodder, but every time I come here it has had a direct effect on my life and my work. There are many things I am working on. I have many pieces that could be played in India,” he said.

I read it somewhere that Luhrmann is now working on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s masterpiece ‘The Great Gatsby’, though he hasn’t confirmed yet…
