Looks like with time I will become a sadistic expert on writing reviews for bad films, if B’wood keeps on churning movies like ‘Luck’ to harass us mentally. But thankfully I’m in a good mood while writing this review, because I have escaped the Friday show of ‘Luck’; unhurt.

The film stars with a group of bunchies running on railway tracks to try out their ‘luck’ on earth with Moosa bhai (Sanjay Dutt). I don’t know if it was a fast Virar local they hired or a slow asthama local which stops at every nook & corner, but ultimately the hero Moosa bhai wins. Need to take some tips from him what he eats to run like that in his 50′s in shiny suits and Bappi Lahiri inspired jewelry. Hmmm…Well I was dangling in the 80′s because most of the stars except Imran Khan & Shruti Hassan are from that season. They still live in the mentally created prisons which croon ‘Sweet sixteen turning on fifty’.

Coming back to present Moosa bhai has survived many fateful adventures due to his luck and so he gets sadistic happiness in experimenting with every alternate person’s luck. So in come the groggy characters of Ram (Imran Khan) who has to pay his scamster Dad’s debts, Raghav Kapoor (Ravi Kishan) a rapist, who escaped getting hanged in Tihar jail because the noose got loose, Shortcut (Chitrashi Rawat) from across the border, Jabber Singh (Mithun Chakraborty) from the army who needs money to get his wife operated and Tamang(Danny Denzongpa) who is Moosa bhai’s ‘Kalia’.

I come out of the theatre during the interval and buy a tall glass of Coke for my throat has dried up after watching the initial patched up movie. So with poppy popcorn and coke glass I am back with my dry face to watch the latter part of the movie. Now here’s where the real enjoyment lies. All of the characters have been lured into betting for green notes and packaged to South Africa to play a reality show kinda ‘Fear Factor’. So here you have some plastic sharks, Mattle toys guns and bungee jumping through parachutes playing the game of ‘luck’ (the word must have been said at least the 10,000th time in the movie by now) where betting guys go hysterical while the lucky survivor get 20 crores in 20 days. So here also you don’t need to jog your brains about who wins the bet; ya its Imran Khan pitted against Bhojpuri babu Ravi Kishen.

The actions scenes are badly threaded sequences where you don’t experience any thrill. You better buy an Rs.20 MoserBaer DVD if you love the 80′s action movies. Imran Khan is decent and is definitely getting over the Aamir Khan hangover. Shruti Hassan is a good looking girl who will prove herself if we stop comparing to her parents Kamal Hassan and Sarika. The gal just needs to work upon her dialog delivery. Ravi Kishen; the dhartiputra is over -the-top as ever and is expected so in his role as a rapist killer. All others just walked passed by what was assigned to them. That includes Danny Denzongpa, Mithun Chakraborty, Chitrashi Rawat and Sanjay Dutt. The dialogues are utterly hilarious comparable to actors who used to use tomato ketchup bottles as blood and groaning ‘Maa…’. Just hear this one and you will know what I am talking about “Tera luck tujhse bhi jyada haraami nikla,”

Soham Shah’s film is a cable car ride which is going downhill except that the ropes haven’t snapped due to the stylization of the film, which is its saving grace. So next don’t try your ‘Luck’ for such movies, before reading the review. Because mentally you may snap anytime..lol..

Dhoom series was into another category all together. Girls used to scream, faint when John Abraham and Hrithik Roshan came on screen every time. Luck is just a mish-mash of two Hollywood movies; The Condemned and Death Race..’Inspiration’..yeah..Soham Shah!..tell me..
